The Smith Street Band
Released last week, Once I Was Wild is the 7th album from The Smith Street Band. It debuted at #2 on the Australian Artists ARIA Charts & #14 on the ARIA Charts, making it the 9th time The Smith Street Band have had a release in the ARIA Top 50 Album Chart. To celebrate the release, The Smith Street Band are hitting the road again, touring capital cities across Australia with a few extra regional shows. Canberra's Witchskull have become one of the most genuinely intriguing and bludgeoning bands in the scene today, injecting every last moment of their rampaging anthems with a jolting dose of lysergic menace in a lauded career spanning over a decade. Blending new wave British Heavy Metal and traditional Doom, coupled with an authentic insight into the occult and mesmerising lyrics, the band have topped the famed 'Doom Charts' and supported the likes of Church of Misery (JAP), Acid King (USA), 1000mods (GRE), Beastwars (NZ), Nashville Pussy (USA) and more. To the uninitiated, Witchskull have been carving their own unique niche in Australia’s Doom Metal scene, releasing four acclaimed full length albums along the way including 2023's 'Serpent Tide' (Rise Above Records), described as "an absolute beast of a record, absolutely massive especially in the riff department." What can be said about John Williamson that hasn’t already been said? 2025/2026 will mark his 55th year in the industry. He will also turn eighty. Twenty-five, fifty-five, eighty. From his humble beginnings as the son of a wheat farmer in the small Victorian Mallee town of Quambatook, it’s quite an achievement. His live concerts take the audience on a journey across this vast land. From ‘Cootamundra Wattle’, ‘Cydi’, ‘Three Sons’, ‘A Bushman Can’t Survive’, ‘Rip Rip Woodchip’, ‘Galleries of Pink Galahs’, ‘Raining on the Rock’, ‘Please Don’t Forget Me’ and his calling card, ‘True Blue’.
